India is net exporter of food, Mr Bush

Bush says rising prosperity in India's huge middle class is the cause of pushing up food price. The same type of statement was given by Foreign minister of USA, Condoleezza Rice who had stated "...apparent improvement in the diets of people in India and China and consequence food export caps is among the causes of the current global food crisis....."

Price of any product increases when demand is more than supply, rise in price of raw material and transportation.

  • Why the demand of food is on increase ?
Mainly increase in population has resulted in increase in demand. Air, water and food are the main necessity of any living animal, birds, creatures or human beings. Indian middle class people are richer and demanding better nutrition, then that is their right. Now the population in all over the world has increased and that of India and China also is increasing.

  • Why the supply is reduced ? and prices of raw material and transportation.
Due to increase in prices of fertilizers and petrol / diesel has increased the cost of food and the farmers have to pass it on to the consumers. And as they don't get enough profit, their new generation is not interested in farming. Huge quantity of the food is used to prepare ethanol, a bio-fuel. This is like milking a cow to feed a dog. To cope up with the requirement of petrol, we are using the food to convert into a fuel. After few years, petrol crisis may not be there, food crisis will be. Petrol consumption is higher in USA because even the poor (below the middle class) have cars. The carbon dioxide has made holes in ozone layer, which in turn has changed the climate drastically, resulting in less production of food. So in this point USA is culprit and not India. AND INDIA IS NET EXPORTER OF FOOD AND NOT IMPORTER.

India's requirement of good nutrition is essential for survival, but the USA people are using car for their luxury. Mr. Bush, we are used to take food in plate, which we can eat. We do not waste food. USA wastes the most. Food packets before expiry date are thrown in the waste bin without opening them.

Each Indian consumes about 178 kg of grain in a year, while a US citizen consumes 1,046 kg according to figures released by the US Department of Agriculture for 2007.

Mr. Bush, please, think before you speak.
