BMC (Bombay Municipal Corporation) had given a contract to Hyderabad based M/s Indian Immunologicals Ltd. to supply anti rabies vaccines of Rs. 10.15 crore (6,38,000 doses at Rs. 159.12 per dose) from 01-01-2006 to 31-12-2007.
But after supplying 83,185 doses, company failed to supply remaining quantity. Observe the figures, the company managed to supply 83,185 doses only from the order of 6,38,000 doses i.e. it could supply 14 percent only. Result of this was scarcity of vaccine and BMC black-listed the company and started buying it from open market. Then again BMC issued tenders. It was decided to buy the vaccine from M/s Bharat Biotech International at Rs. 219.96 again the quantity was the same as in previous case i.e. 6,38,000. But it couldn't pass the technical tests.
But if the BMC buys vaccine at 219.96, it has to spend approximately Rs. 4 crore more.
Now BMC has turned to M/s Indain Immunolgicals Ltd and decided to order the same quantity for 18 months instead of 24 months when order was given for the first time.
The company is given order of the same quantity for a shorter period that means the production capacity of the company should be increased by 6-7 times, which though is not impossible but is difficult surely.
